Snow Owl

Snow Owl (bürgerlicher Name Juan Garcia-Herreros) wurde in Bogotá, Kolumbien geboren und hatte bereits von klein auf große Ambitionen einmal Musiker zu werden.

Bereits mit 9 Jahren lernte er Flöte spielen und brachte sich als Autodidakt dann später das E-Bass-Spielen in Florida bei, wo er mit 17 Jahren gemeinsam mit der Tampa Bay Simphony auf der Bühne stand. In den weiteren Stationen seines ereignisreichen Lebens New Orleans und Boston konnte er von Größen wie Bruce Gertz und Rich Appleman lernen und sein Bassspiel perfektionieren. Schon mit 21 zog es ihn nach New York, wo er einer professionellen Musikerkarriere nachging. Dort schaffte er es im pulsierenden Schmezltegel der Metropole mit zahlreichen Musikstilen wie Jazz, Pop, Funk, Salsa, Rock, Klassik, Heavy Metal und Avant-Garde zu experimentieren und diese zu erlernen. Später zog er dann nach Österreich, wo er heute noch lebt. Mit 39 gewann er bei den Global Music Awards die dreifache Goldmedaille als erster kolumbianischer Artist, dem diese Ehre zuteil wird. Mit 40 wurde er dann von Hans Zimmer dazu auserwählt, ihn auf seiner World of Hans Zimmer symphonic celebration tour als E-Bassist zu begleiten. Spiritualität zu leben und im Alltag zu integrieren gehört zu Snow Owl’s Lebensmotto, genauso wie den Glauben seiner indigenen Vorfahren in die weite Welt zu tragen und bekannt zu machen.

“In reality my name, my real name is Snow Owl. And the name Juan Garcia is a legal name for the government. We have a very strong connection to the animal spirit, which brings us, it helps us to come from the non-physical world to the physical. This journey is very hard on the soul and therefore the spirit animal bonds with you to give you the strength to be able to make this journey.”

Well, to talk about magic with indigenous people is actually something we rely on, we don’t believe in it. The fact that this planet - we’re inside of a blue ball and we don’t fall out of it – that is magic. When the seasons change and the fruits come from the trees – that’s magic. I mean, there is science, which tries to explain it, but in a certain way science is a controlled explanation of magic, or some kind of physical or mathematical explanation of magic.”
